Following in eBay's footsteps, Brevard County's first Internet tax lien cyber-auction generated more than 4 million bids from prospective buyers as distant as Alaska.
"That's tremendous," Tax Collector Rod Northcutt said. "We're just pleased as punch with the outcome of the sale."
The county's online auction extended from May 12 through Friday, peddling 9,079 tax certificates on parcels owned by people who owe delinquent property taxes.
Last year's in-person auction drew 205 bidders. This year, 1,835 people submitted computerized bids from homes and offices across Florida and elsewhere - a nine-fold increase. Read More
